Advanced Placement
English Language and Composition
The major purpose of this course
is to engage students in becoming skilled readers of prose written
in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts and in
becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes. The
student is required to read and analyze works of literary merit to examine
how stylistic effects are achieved by writers’ linguistic choices. This
college-level course meets the basic eleventh/ twelfth-grade English requirement
for graduation and fulfills the “b” requirement of the UC/CSU Subject
Area Requirements for students eligible for Honors English. Certain colleges may
accept it for course credit or advanced placement of students who qualify on the
CEEB Advanced Examination in Literature and Composition.
